Andrew L. Warren, visiting Associate Professor of Criminal Justice, is a former locomotive engineer and graduate of the Burlington Northern Technical Training Institute, he received a B.A. from the University of Kansas, an M.A. in American History from Fort Hays State University, and a J.D. from Washburn University.

He served as a public defender in Kansas for 9 years including assignments as Acting Director of an office in suburban Kansas City and ultimately Public Defender for Western Kansas. He was in private practice in Dodge City Kansas for four years and served as Special Public Defender with major case responsibility. He left private practice to become the Criminal Advocate (Public Defender) for the Tohono O’Odham Nation in Sells, Arizona for two years and then served nearly three years as Assistant Chief Prosecutor on the 2,800,000 acre reservation in the heart of the Sonora Desert which includes a 69 mile border with Mexico and extends 60 miles into Arizona.

He has successfully litigated in the trial and appellate courts of Kansas, the Tohono O’Odham Nation, United States District Court for Kansas, and the United States 10 th Circuit Court of Appeals.

In his spare time he teaches Philosophy courses online for Fort Hays State University, and more often American History courses for Western New Mexico University and Pima Community College. In any remaining spare time he reads American History and railroad history.
