Tutorial – Chat Room

1. Sometimes it takes a while for the chatroom java scrip to initialize. Please be patient.

2. There are different chatrooms. Student Room, Learning Room, Discussion Room, and Listening Room are the rooms for you to use for your chats. I will then be able to send you a transcript of your chat. Since there are four chatrooms, you should be able to find one free for your conversation.

3. If I schedule a chat for the class, I will announce which room I will be in. I will hold virtual “office hours” in the chat room about once a week.

4. After you open the chatroom the first thing you must do is pick a chatroom. It is best to have decided with your group which room to meet in at a certain time.

5. Click on the desired room.

6. You will type in the small window at the bottom. When you press return, your words will be placed in the big window at the top following your name.

7. The name of all the individuals in the room will show up in the window on the right side. If your name is there twice, you may have double clicked on the room name and it thinks there are two of you. That won’t cause a problem. Just continue chatting from the window that you have open.

8. Sometimes when you double click, the window opens and then hides in the Task Bar at the bottom of the screen. Look for WebCT Chat and click on that button.

9. When you are finished click on Quit and the Chat Script will close.
