COUNSELING PROGRAM

Our program is designed to prepare students for a variety of careers. Training is provided through skilled professors and courses in a wide-spectrum of subjects including:
- Mental Health Counseling
- Multicultural Counseling
- Career Counseling
- Substance Abuse Counseling
- Grief/Loss/Trauma Counseling
- Child and Adolescent Counseling
- School Counseling
- Marriage and Family Counseling
The 2-year program includes a 9-credit internship in counseling.
Accredited and Meets Licensure Standards
The Master of Arts in Counseling at WNMU is a 60-credit hour program, accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and offered with field experiences (practicum and internship) in either agency or school counseling settings. The program meets all educational and field experience requirements for Mental Health licensure through the New Mexico Public Education Department and certification from the National Board for Certified Counselors.
The focus of the program is to assist students in developing the skills to provide innovative and effective counseling experiences for clients from a multicultural society. The program is offered at the Silver City and Gallup campuses with personalized learning through small class sizes and low student/ teacher ratios.
