Bio

Dr. Wikstrom received an entry-level OT degree from the University of New Mexico in 1997 and completed her Doctorate through Rocky Mountain University for Health Professionals in 2011. She has been an Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy for 4 years and is currently on tenure track at WNMU. For several years prior to this, April operated a private practice in southern Colorado, serving children and adults across the lifespan. As a new graduate, April worked in the acute-care rehab department at Mercy Medical Center in Durango, Colorado. Afterwards, she spent 8 years with the Jicarilla Apache Tribe in northern New Mexico, where she was the only OT in the community to provide pediatric services for children with disabilities in homes, schools and day care centers. Other professional interests include Early Intervention, Program Development, Pain Management, Mindfulness and Therapeutic Yoga.
