Master of Occupational Therapy

WELCOME


Western New Mexico University Master of Occupational Therapy Program accepts applications on a first come first serve basis for fall admission. The program is designed to bridge the education for the Occupational Therapy Assistant to the Master’s entry level. Our innovative curriculum offers on-line courses with occasional weekend laboratory experiences. Full time and part time tracks are available.

COTA to MOT program class size is limited to 20 students per year. Applications are being accepted now and will be reviewed in the order they are received. Applicants will be notified of admission into the program by June 1. Applications after that date will be accepted and reviewed on a space available basis.

Mission of the Occupational Therapy Program consistent with the missions of Western New Mexico University, and the School of Allied Health, the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) Program prepares students to meet the challenges of providing entry-level occupational therapy services in established and emerging areas of practice. Emphasis is placed on cultural diversity, rural and regional healthcare, an appreciation for life-long learning, and effective implementation of evidence based practice.

 
 

The entry-level occupational therapy master’s degree program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at

Certification

Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (www.nbcot.org). After successful completion of this exam, they receive the title of Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR).
