REHABILITATION SERVICES PROGRAM

Western New Mexico University's Bachelor of Arts degree in Rehabilitation Services is the only bachelor degree of its kind in New Mexico and one of only a few similar programs to be offered online throughout the United States. The program was established to address the well documented growing need for rehabilitation professionals in the United States. These professionals support and assist persons with disabilities to live as independently as possible, to contribute to society and be active members of their communities.

The Curriculum is based on the stringent guidelines of the Council on Rehabilitation Education's Commission on Undergraduate Education. In 2009 the Rehabilitation Services program was approved by the Council on Rehabilitation Education's Commission on Undergraduate Education at the CORE Annual Meeting for inclusion in the Undergraduate Registry. This Registry is the only formal recognition available for undergraduate programs in Rehabilitation and Disability Studies and Hilbert's program met the stringent standards of the registry.

For students wishing to go on to advanced degrees, the program provides a solid foundation in Rehabilitation Services while allowing flexibility to specialize in areas of interest. Students frequently go on to pursue graduate degrees in areas such as rehabilitation counseling, occupational therapy, social work, disability studies, psychology, chemical dependency school counseling, and psychology.
