Danny Reyes

Assistant Professor of Music, MM Jazz Performance

 

Danny Reyes is currently a trumpeter and vocalist for Mariachi Raíces de America of El Paso, TX. He has competed with them in the Albuquerque Mariachi Spectacular conference and was a part of the select Masters Group in 2012 where he studied under Mariachi Los Camperos trumpeter, Javier Rodriguez. 

In 2011, he received his Bachelor's of Music degree in Music Education with a concentration in Jazz. In May 2013, Danny completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance from William Paterson University where he has studied with world renowned musicians Mulgrew Miller, Bill Mobley, Bill Goodwin, Rich DeRosa, Gene Bertoncini, and Paul Meyers. While playing lead trumpet in the William Paterson Jazz Orchestra, he has played with guest artists Steve Wilson, Maria Schneider, Rich Perry, Scott Robinson, Benny Golson, Frank Wess and Joe Lovano.

He was a member of a New Jersey/New York quintet with guitarist Arath Corral, saxophonist Brian Cornish, bassist Charlie Dougherty and drummer Joe Spinelli in which they played original music composed by the members and arrangements of jazz standards. Danny also played trumpet in small ensembles, big bands, and brass bands in New Jersey and New York and taught lessons in New Jersey and via Skype.

Danny can be heard playing trumpet on guitarist PJ Rassmussen's debut album "Adventures in Flight."
