Design Technical Emphasis
- THR 136 (General Education Arts) Everything Technical
Theater An introduction to the various aspects of play production
including set construction and painting, lighting, costumes, and sound with
practical application in the current play production.
- THR 212 Theatrical Design Theory – Examines the theory and
history of theatrical design including set design, costume design, lighting
design, and sound design.
- THR 315 Stage Management Practical application of the
theories of how to organize and manage a theatrical performance or gallery
opening.
- THR 381/481 Individual practicum study in Technical Theater
Allows the student to study the technical area of choice in order to complete
the BFA with theater emphasis.
Performance Studies
- THR 119 The Language of Theater A study of the development
of the terms and language of theater and music.

- THR 211 Acting I Emphasis on acting techniques and the creation
of a role.
- THR 213 What is Performance? A study of the aesthetics
of theater and musical performance. This class will study the theories
of emotion, acting, catharsis, embodiment, engagement, and time/space as
well as the characteristics of theatrical and musical experiences of performance.
(Required by students wishing to study ID Music and Theater disciplines.)
- THR 215 Rehearsal and Performance Course offered for those
students wanting to get credit for acting or production tech work in shows
- THR 243 Movement in Performance A study
of movement as it relates to narrative and theater. Includes techniques
of mask work within the framework of practical exploration and application.
(Required by students wishing to study ID Music and Theater disciplines.)
- THR 318 Symbol, Self, and Society A study
of the theater of social justice and issues of society. This class will
study how critical pedagogy, theater of the oppressed, street theater, existentialist
theater, and absurdist theater have affected society. Beginning with the
study of Samuel Beckett and continuing to the Living Theater, Open Theater,
Sam Shepard, and Augusto Boal. (WI)
- THR 336 Historical Perspectives in Theater The study of
theater and music from the Greeks to the Modern Eras (WI)
- THR 415 Study in Cultural Theater Students will study and
research theater from another culture and present a staged reading. (Could
be final thesis for ID BFA students.) (WI)
- THR 431 Leadership and Organization This course examines
the elements of musical and theater leadership as it relates to business.
How to start a non-profit arts organization including advertising and promotion.
The course will also offer techniques for raising money and understanding
legal issues. (elective)
