Brenda Erickson, Occupational Therapist and Certified Psychosocial Rehab Practitioner - and WNMU faculty member in the Allied Health department - recently had an article published in the Journal of Occupational Science. The article, entitled "Lifestyle Balance: How it is Described and Experienced by Women with Multiple Sclerosis," was published in the April 2008 edition, volume 15 number 1, pages 20-26. The work resulted from her thesis research on a new model of lifestyle balance. The research used focus groups to explore the experiences, perceptions, and attitudes about lifestyle balance in 13 women with multiple sclerosis, and provide evidence for lifestyle balance as a useful foundation for underanding the needs of these women. The research concluded "that women with multiple sclerosis have the samelifestyle needs as women without chronic conditions, such as managing the multiple demands on their time and energy, yet they have the additional burden of coping with unpredictable and debilitating symptoms." |
