My Vote is John Kerry
The first election that I will be able to participate in is the 2004 Presidential Election. I am excited to vote. For the first time, my voice will be heard and now I have the right to complain all I want if the next leader is not living up to his full potential. I know that every vote counts, so I want to make the best decision for electing our next president. I took into consideration the issues both President Bush and Senator John Kerry are supporting. Both President Bush and Senator John Kerry have a good perspective on their plan for America. I have to say I agree most with John Kerry and the issues he is promoting: education, health care, and the economy. In this 2004 election, my vote for president is John Kerry.
I feel that John Kerry will be the most valuable candidate for president. George Bush has caused a lot of families to lose health care. He sent people over seas to fight in the war on terror. We, the people, do not have an exact date for when our soldiers will be returning. The president has not set an approximate date for the returning of our American soldiers. He gives tax cuts for the wealthy. I understand that we need taxes for welfare, the jails, etc, but why raise the taxes on the middle and lower classes when families are struggling. The wealthy already has the money if not more to afford these taxes. I just don’t understand why they deserve the tax breaks. What about the middle and lower class? We can not focus on one particular part of the community. It is time for change in this country. The time for a new leader to make that change is now, and that leader should be John Kerry. John Kerry has a better perspective of the issues America faces. John Kerry is promoting that every child should be able to meet high standards. John Kerry and John Edwards will establish a National Education Trust Fund to ensure that schools receive the necessary funding they need. Both Kerry and Edwards want the No Child Left Behind for schools, states, and teachers by rewarding schools that show improvement. Having great teachers teach our students is another issue they are promoting. Kerry wants better training and better pay for teachers in troubled schools. The issue that is going to be affecting me in the future is the cost of college tuition. Kerry wants to offer a fully refundable college opportunity tax credit up to $4,000 which would help most families. If this gets put into affect, this action will really help out my family. John Kerry has a plan to cut family premiums up to $1,600. Also in his plan, Kerry wants people with disabilities or terminal illnesses to receive the equal and proper treatment they deserve. Prescription medicine is a factor that affects my life. Every so often, I get sick and need to get a prescription. These prescriptions are expensive. For example, I am taking prescription medicine for my acne and my doctor prescribes pills and a face wash. The wash costs me $40.00 every three weeks. In Kerry’s plan, he will reduce prescription drugs by “allowing the re-importation of safe prescription drugs from Canada…ensuring low-cost drugs, and ending artificial barriers to generic drug competition.” In America today, people are “working hard, earning less, and paying more health care, college tuition, and taxes.” John Kerry has been focusing on the middle class. He thinks that by “strengthening the middle class we can make America richer by giving everyone a chance to build a better life for their families.” John Kerry wants to create better paying jobs, while not having to ship jobs overseas. Also, Kerry wants to reward hardworking middle class families with tax breaks. Ninety-eight percent of all Americans and ninety-nine percent of American businesses will receive a tax cut under the Kerry/ Edwards plan. This election means a lot to me especially since this is the first election I will get to participate in and be able to make a change in this world. I want to be able to have my voice heard on who I feel is most qualified for this position. If John Kerry does not become president, I will not be too upset. I hope that George Bush can make a difference in the election by not make empty promises to this country. If you have issues to promote, then promote them. In other words, “If you’re going to bark, then you better make sure you have the bite.” I feel most confident that John Kerry is the better candidate for the position of president. I believe during the 2004 election, my vote is for John Kerry.
