Time to Relax
The best way I have found to relax after a hard week is to go to a nearby natural hot spring and soak for a few hours. The citizens of Silver City are lucky to live in the best part of the country for natural hot springs. Within two hundred miles of Silver City are six different natural hot springs.
My favorite hot springs is the Faywood Hot Springs; they are twenty miles south of Silver City on the way to Deming. These springs are privately owned and well maintained. They are the nicest, cleanest, and hottest springs around. There is a ten dollar fee that is good until ten o’clock in the evening for the public pools. They also have fenced in private pools that are twenty dollars an hour. It may seem that they are high priced, but I guarantee it is worth every penny to soak at Faywood. All of the pools are made from rock and cement, varying in size. The biggest pool they have can comfortably fit twenty to twenty-five people. The water temperature in the pools is 90 to 105 degrees. I recommend to anyone who needs to relax and soak their muscles; the Faywood Hot Springs is the place to enjoy that relaxing soak. Another hot spring that is worth the drive is out near the Gila Cliff Dwellings. These springs are called Doc Campbells Hot Springs. They also have a small fee, however they are quite a bit cheaper then Faywood. They charge three dollars for people ten years old and older, and children soak for free. They have three natural pools at Doc Campbells. They are large holes dug in the ground and outlined with rocks. They are natural pools, so the bottoms are just river sand. The water temperature is well over one hundred degrees in all three pools. It is a wonderful place to relax right on the edge of the Gila River. Fifty yards across the river is a huge mountain with beautiful rock formations. In my opinion, around evening time is the best time to go there. Lying in a natural hot spring looking up at the stars has got to be like heaven. I would recommend these two nearby hot springs to anyone that needs to get away from the daily hustle and bustle in their lives. Another nice thing about these two hot springs is that they are never really crowded. The owners also let us enjoy our favorite cold beverages as long as we don’t get to loud and rowdy. Take a drive to one of these hot springs some weekend and I guarantee you will become a hot spring believer.
