Some Good Advice
Throughout my lifetime there have been several people who offered me
good advice. When I was seventeen I worked as a secretary for my fathers
company and attended school an a full-time basis. I enjoyed working more than
attending school . There were several reasons why I enjoyed working more than
going to school.
The first reason I liked working was making
money so I could purchase an automobile.
Back then I took the bus and walked to and from school and work. This was an inconvenience for me. The bus was often late and would make
me arrive late to my school classes.
Most of my friends had cars and were rarely late to class. It embarrassed me when I was late. Another reason I liked working was to
help support my family. I helped
buy food and clothes for myself and brothers and sisters. Helping my family made me feel good
inside. The last reason I liked
working was because a young man at my work liked me. I had dreams of marrying him and having a family. These three reasons for working almost
made me quit school.
My best friend, Mavi, gave me good advice to
stay in school and finish. She was
a teacher and knew the importance of finishing school. I chose to stay in school because of
her advice. I finished high school
that year and felt satisfied with my accomplishment. I was very grateful to Mavi for her advice.
I worked full-time after finishing high
school. The company I worked for
asked me to enroll in College and take courses in accounting. When I completed this course work they
offered me a promotion. If I
hadn’t finished high school I wouldn’t have been able to attend college or
receive this promotion. Because of
a friend’s good advice I learned the benefits of finishing school. Education is very important for
attaining your future goals and being prepared for opportunities which may
present themselves.
