Barbilophozia barbata is a leafy liverwort with reduced or absent underleaves. The leaves are 2-5 lobed, with mature leaves being commonly 4 lobed. The oil bodies are visible under 400x magnification. The lobe tips are not mucronate. The mature stem is brownish. Barbilophozia barbata can be found either growing at upper elevation in pure mats or, perhaps more commonly, mixed with mosses such as Dicranum scoparium. Please click on an image for a larger file.
