Synonyms:
Carex tenuirostris Olney

Carex athrostachya is an erect sedge with flat leaves from below the middle of the culm. The heads are ovoid with gynecandrous spikes. The pistillate scales have green centers and the perigynia are wing margined. The beak is short.
