Ipomoea costellata is a more upright and diminutive version of the flower on other members of the genus. This flower is only about a centimeter across. The leaves are highly dissected and the leaf segments are linear. It is found at middle elevations in a variety of habitats. The name "costellata" means crested. The midribs of the sepals of Ipomoea costellata are crested or have warty protuberances.
