Townsendia annua is a slightly smaller and annual version of our much more
common perennial, Townsendia exscapa. Townsendia annua has a small and clearly
annual root system. The flowerheads on Townsendia exscapa are sessile or nearly
so, while those on Townsendia annua are pedicellate or occur on a prostrate stem.
