RN to BSN PROGRAM

The RN to BSN program at Western New Mexico University started during Fall semester, 2005. The program is designed for the working nurse and is fully accredited by CCNE. Applicants to the BSN program must have a current RN license. All RN-BSN nursing courses are online as are many of the general education classes. It is possible to complete the BSN program in two years . The curriculum is designed to address contemporary issues in nursing. Students are encouraged to explore increasingly complex roles in nursing in and out of the hospital, in order to enhance critical thinking skills. There is a practicum component which requires 135 hours in Community Health Nursing, which can be accomplished in the community where you live. The application process is quick and easy. Simply click the link on the left to complete the RN to BSN Program Application and the WNMU Admission Application. When completing your Admission application, please be sure to indicate the semester you intend to enroll in courses. Official transcripts will need to be sent to the Admission Office to complete the admission process. Students can print the transcript request form to order their transcripts. Courses are offered on a rotation schedule and students can enroll at any time. The Course Rotation Schedule indicates which course(s) are offered during each semester. Students have the opportunity for direct input in the governance of WNMU through committees of the Faculty Senate, the University and the Student Government (ASWNMU). Program Admission Requirements

1. Graduate of an approved ADN or Diploma program in nursing

2. Active license as a Registered Nurse

3. Cumulative GPA of 2.50

The RN to BSN program at WNMU is committed to excellence in nursing education and designed to increase the level of RN professionalism by fostering lifelong learning for all graduates. Our aim is to mentor nurses to assume leadership roles and advocate for individuals, families and communities using technology as well as ethically and culturally-sound, evidence-based practice.

RN to BSN Goals

The graduate of the program will pursue a path of lifelong learning which incorporates evidence-based practices, quality improvement initiatives, and integration of advance technology.
The graduate of the program will exhibit professionalism through delivery of patient centered and culturally appropriate care to individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations.
The graduate of the program will assume leadership roles in workplace and community settings.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program Objectives

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program are prepared to:

Provide patient centered and culturally appropriate care to individuals, familiesand communities, with an emphasis on wellness, as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Assume management/leadership roles in their chosen work settings and communities.
Incorporate evidence-based findings into their care and management practices.
Role model ethical thinking and behavior, both in and out of the workplace.
Participate in workplace and/or community quality improvement initiatives.
Communicate effectively, using all available technology.
Advocate for policy changes in the workplace, community, state, and country that will address inadequacies and inequalities in health care delivery.
