This portfolio-based program provides extensive field experience (internships) in school psychology. The program prepares qualified individuals for entry level school psychologists. Program coursework is derived from special education, educational leadership, counseling, and psychology. Professors with public school or agency experience teach candidates how to diagnose and counsel children in the ability to make personal decisions that lead toward productive life-styles. The program also focuses on the role of a school psychologist in school organizations that facilitate active participatory decision making. Professors closely monitor student progress while utilizing multiple ways of assessing student work. The interdisciplinary masters degree may be obtained by combining the coursework generated in route to a school psychology license. A program completer is qualified for entry level school psychologist licensure in the State of New Mexico. Catalog Description |
