School of Education
Policy on Professional Development Credit
Professional development Credit (PDC) will be offered by Western
New Mexico University (WNMU) for the purpose of professional development, enrichment, and
salary advancement credit (T and E). All course proposals for Professional Development
credit will be reviewed by the Professional Education Committee (PEC) in the School of
Education. Where necessary, the Professional Education Committee will consult with the
appropriate program area representative in formulating a recommendation for the dean's
approval. Professional Development Credit will only be accepted in special cases with
prior approval from the PEC, the Dean of the SOE, and the Vice President for Academic
Affairs. Professional Development Credit courses are not part of WNMU's approved programs
nor are they appropriate substitutes. Professional Development Credits are not recommended
for licensure and endorsement purposes. Professional Development courses may be taught by
University Faculty or school personnel or educational consultants holding the Master's
degree or above who can demonstrate exceptional expertise. Trancript credit will identify
Professional Development Credit by the numbers 444 (undergraduate credit) or 544 (graduate
credit) and a listing of the course title as Professional Development: "Title of
Course''.
