NCATE

WNMU first gained a ten year accreditation from NCATE in the 1954-55 academic year. The institution enjoyed this status until 1974. During a visit in 1974 President John Snedeker had the NCATE team escorted out of town. In a letter dated March 25, 1975, President Snedeker stated, "our recent experiences with the evaluation team representing NCATE is deleterious to the attainment of this goal (the dedication of WNMU to excellence in teacher education) … hence we officially tender our resignation from NCATE effective immediately."

WNMU regained initial accreditation during the 1998-1999 academic year. A reaccredidation visit is scheduled for April 17-21, 2004.
