This portfolio-based program provides extensive field experience (internships) in either agency or school counseling. The program prepares qualified individuals for the profession of counseling in a variety of settings including schools, community health centers, government agencies, clinics, hospitals, and private practice. Professors with public school or agency counseling experience teach counseling candidates to facilitate clients, children, families or students in making personal decisions that lead toward productive life-styles. The program also focuses on the role of a counselor in agency or school organizations that facilitate active participatory decision making. Professors closely monitor student progress while utilizing multiple ways of assessing student work. A
program completer is qualified for a k-12 school counselor or mental
health counselor licensure in the State of New Mexico. |
