Bilingual Education / TESOL Endorsement Programs

Bilingual Education and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Programs require that teachers be trained in methods for teaching linguistically and culturally different students. While bilingual teachers teach in both English and the other language, TESOL teachers teach in English. The WNMU program provides licensure in Spanish, Navajo, and Zuni languages.

Professors with public school and cultural experience teach courses that maximize opportunities for student thinking and achievement. Professors closely monitor student progress while utilizing multiple ways of assessing student work. Methods courses focus on the individual and developmental needs of children and tackle such issues as exceptional students and students with disabilities. Integration of technology in classroom instruction is addressed throughout the program.

A program completer is qualified for a bilingual and/or TESOL endorsement in the State of New Mexico.
