Histories of Schools Project |
|
The Histories of Schools Project has grown from activities associated with History & Philosophy of Education classes taught by Dr. Ruth Galaz. Students research the histories of local and regional schools and exhibit their work through various means. Some have built small-scale models of early schools, including interior furnishings. One student created a web page on Western High School. The models, additional artifacts, and notebooks containing information on the schools are displayed in exhibits on the WNMU campus. Research required for the Project promotes appreciation of communities that schools have served. Interacting with elders, students learn of unwritten community histories and of the school's influence on individual lives. For information on current exhibits, call the School of Education at 575-538-6416. Click here to see photographs of some small-scale models. Watch
