This portfolio-based program provides extensive field experience to enhance classroom learning and guides pre-service students to performance outcomes in:

Use of technology
Classroom management

Students with technical training in construction, welding, drafting, or computer networking, and other technical areas are encouraged to become successful classroom teachers. This program is committed to preparing teachers that can demonstrate the learning of technical knowledge and skills while also teaching academic knowledge, skills, and dispositions.

Professors with public school and technical experience teach courses that maximize opportunities for student thinking and achievement. Professors closely monitor student progress while utilizing hands-on opportunities in assessing student work. Methods courses focus on the individual and developmental needs of children and tackle such issues as exceptional students. Integration of technology in classroom instruction is addressed throughout the program.

A program completer is qualified for a secondary (grades 7-12) career and technical education license in the State of New Mexico.
