Sechler/Rhoades-Glaser

The Sechlar/Rhoades-Glaser Buildings house the Preschool/Child Development Center, the La Familia Resource and Referral Center, and the Community Child Care Services. The center also sponsors the early childhood education program, before and after school age programs, the Growing Tree Day Care Center at Silver High School, and a pre-teaching career program for Cobre and Silver High School students.

Hazel Sechler, Inez Rhoades, and Adelaide Glaser are all noted professors who retired from WNMU and are deceased. Hazel Sechler served as primary supervisor in the training school and professor of education (specializing in teaching reading and language arts0 during her 33 year career at Western. Miss Sechler is remember most for her very high standards and expectations.

Inez Rhoades was the seventh and eighth grade supervisor at the training school, taught English and speech classes at the college and directed children's speech clinics. Miss Rhoades and Miss Sechler were best friends who devoted their lives to teaching.

Adelaide Glaser was the long-time professor and chair of the home economics department. She is honored by the University as Emeritus Professor.

Trivia Question: What does Miss Sechler, Miss Rhoades, and the current Dean, Jerry Harmon, have in common? Answer: All three hold undergraduate teaching degrees from Huron College in Huron, SD.
