Promotion and Tenure Task Force Minutes
7 March 2001
2:00 pm Serna Conference Room
Present: Louis Martinez, Ed Hall, Chuck Strang, Faye Vowell, Pat Maguire, Dennis Hayslett, Gwen Cassel, Pam Kuthe
Absent: Roland Shook has a class at this time.
Our next meeting will be April 11, 2001 at 2:00 pm in Serna Conference Room.
The Task Force discussed the feedback on our draft promotion and tenure policy from the Faculty Senate meeting yesterday.
We decided not to advance the idea of a Review Committee at the University level in the revisions we are putting forward.
We decided that we did not wish to change the existing “Policies Governing Promotion in Academic Rank.”
Since the policy was tabled at Faculty Senate, it could not go forward to General Assembly until April. Therefore, there is no way it could pass this year and go to the Board for consideration in its May meeting. We discussed the problem of beginning a discussion in April and not voting until September and decided that it would be better to present the proposed policy to Faculty Senate and General Assembly in September with the plan for a vote to take place in October. It could then go to the Board in the December meeting.
Faye will email Gwen a note to that effect. She will also ask Lloyd to take down the existing document from the Web.
Faye will also take first crack at putting the proposal in the requested format to submit to Faculty Senate and email it to the Task Force prior to the next meeting.
