Staff Senate Minutes
June 1, 2005

- Open Meeting
- President Hittle called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Secretary/Treasurer Springer took attendance of senators present.
Approval of Agenda
Vice President Biglin made a motion to approve the agenda with Senator Fischer seconding. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes
Vice President Biglin made a motion to approve the minutes from the May 4, 2005, meeting with Senator Fischer seconding. Motion carried.
President’s Report
Julia Biglin was recognized at the spring 2005 graduation ceremony as the Employee of the Year. Congratulations, Julia.
One of the AQIP groups is looking at the Special Student and Staff registration process.
Tuition Waiver—the waiver increased from 12 to 18 hours. If you are interested in taking classes in the fall, you are allowed to register at this time.
Classes, during your normal working hours, must be approved by your supervisor. If you are taking more than one three-hour course during the day and your supervisor approves, you do not need to make up the time.
June 14th meeting—this will be the date for meeting with the university lawyer in regards to questions about the union. The union representatives declined the invitation to attend the meeting. The meeting times will be 12:00-1:30 and 3:00-4:30 in the Global Resource Center Auditorium.
Labor Relations Board—WNMU and the Union have named their respective representative to the board. The board is currently organizing itself by creating rules and regulations and determining which employees can be eligible for union membership.
Old Business
Committee Reports
- Staff Handbook—Fischer—the committee is currently working on wording issues in the handbook. They plan to meet with the Human Resource Director on the issues. The committee hopes to have the new updates finished before July 1st.
The committee will meet in June for their scheduled meeting, but not in July.
- Rewards and Recognition—Biglin—The Employee of the Month
for the month of June is Kelly Riddle from the Human Resource and Payroll Departments.
The next meeting will be on June 16th.
- Election Committee—Rios—an election for new senators will be held in August.
B. Union Update
Date for Open Forum will be June 14th.
Open Forum
Randy Jones, Acting Vice President of Business Affairs, was introduced to those in attendance.
Next Meeting
The next meeting will be July 6, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. in the Seminar Room.
Adjournment
Senator Fischer made a motion to adjourn the meeting with Vice President Biglin seconding.
