Present: Cassel, French also representing Decker, Ollivier, Woodard, Heiner, Metcalf, Kuthe representing McIntire, Muncrief, Milligan, Benavidez, Vowell

Guests: Kathie Gilbert, Julie Morales

1. Julie Morales discussed Bond Issue B and urged us all to vote to support it in the upcoming election.

2. Kathie Gilbert shared a handout and discussed the AQIP (Academic Quality Improvement Program with the chairs. This is an alternative process for accreditation sponsored by NCA. WNMU is applying to be one of the schools included in this process. More information is available at this website: www.AQIP.org.

3. The group discussed the new summer session guidelines. Faye recommended that chairs encourage alternative packaging of course to see if we can better serve our students. She will ask chairs to track the different options to see which work better than others.

4. Larry French, Donna Rees, and Al Milligan agreed to draft a policy dealing with remunerating faculty for independent studies, setting a limit on the number a faculty member could teach in a semester, and providing guidelines for eligibility for independent studies by students. They will bring the draft back to Academic Council for discussion.

5. Gwen Cassel updated the group on the Vocational Rehab grant she has just written. The grant would award students stipends. The Voc Rehab major would be built primarily out of existing courses. Only 4 new courses and an internship would have to be created.

6. Faye distributed a copy of an adjunct faculty proposal that Jean Hall had shared with her. Please read it and come to the next meeting prepared to discuss it.

7. Cathy Owens, Jerry Harmon, Dennis Miller, Pam Kuthe were appointed to a committee together with Chuck Kelly, Mike Alecksen, and Cissy McAndrew to draft procedures for awarding scholarships so we can use those scholarship dollars to recruit students.

8. Larry French and Gwen Cassel agreed to draft an MBO handbook for chairs to use to guide faculty in writing their objectives and documenting the extent to which they meet their objectives.

9. Faye Vowell distributed copies of departmental data on faculty workload and credit hour production by level and asked that chairs look at and correct the information contained in it and get the corrections back to her. On the adjunct lists the following codes apply in the section column: 30 = Deming; 80 = T or C; 90=Gallup.
