- Kathie Gilbert is working on the AQIP Strategy Forum. 11 people will be going to the session in Chicago at the end of January. Representing the SOTL initiative will be Julie Miller and Patricia Cano; representing the Planning and Marketing initiative will be John Saari and Irene Mears; Rick Johnson, the VPs, Pres. Counts, Kathie Gilbert, and Adele Springer representing Staff Senate will also attend. Team will meet tomorrow to begin the preparation process
- Computer equipment for Martinez addition has been ordered.
- Modified communication with Extended Campuses is up and running...
- Duane Elms will be a Baldrige examiner this year again.
- To raise money for the Endowed Professorship a reception will be held in May.
- Rotary Silent Auction Fundraiser will be on March 19.WNMU will benefit in the form of scholarships
- The student Giving Tree was a great success as was the clothing drive.
- The theme for the Great Race is Wild Wild West.
- Student Government is doing interviews to fill open positions.
- On January 18 and 19, the CHE will be meeting.
- There are motor pool issues with vehicles. When you take a motor pool car, you need to return it clean; you should note if it has a defect; return it full of gas; do not smoke in the vehicle. Take care of the vehicles as if they were your own. The Acclaims are being repainted.
- There will be a women's basketball game tonight
- The PD-Martinez addition is virtually finished. Furniture is being put in place. Classes can be moved in within a week or two.
- Some organization changes in HR were made and have been shared via an email.
- Sherri Bays is out for an extended period. If you have an issue, speak with Chris Casey, then Cynthia Martinez, and then John Saari
- General Assembly will be meeting on this Thursday.
- On Friday Tom Gruszka will do a session on the new CUPA classifications...
- Carl Perkins has been authorized for one more year.
- We are working on concurrent enrollment from Deming, Lordsburg and Socorro.
- There was an Endowed Professorship news release in Sun News and will be in Gallup Herald and T or C and Deming papers. $11,000 has been collected for the Endowed Professorship and the match has been completed for $37,500 for professional development. Dan Tressler is working on corporate sponsorship.
- The Foundation is still working on scholarship renewals for the spring semester.
- The Foundation is working with students on emergency loans.
- The Staff Senate Handbook Committee is working to include changes passed in the December Board meeting
- There was an Articulation Task Force meeting in ABQ yesterday. The efforts are on target to generate common course numbering and naming as well as course outcomes.
- Jerry Harmon has taken a job as Dean at Eastern New Mexico University. His first day was Monday, 10 January. We will miss him. Faye Vowell has leads on good candidates to serve as interim Dean while we search for a full time Dean. For day to day issues, please go to TJ Betenbough who will be backed up by Richard Rodriguez. Thanks to both of them for helping out.
- An advising training session will be offered on Friday on the topic of advising Hispanic and Native American students.
- Enrollment--A number of faculty and staff have enrolled in classes. Thanks to those who are helping our enrollment efforts.
- Efforts are being made to facilitate the enrollment of faculty and staff. The process has not been revised for some time; we are committed to streamlining it.
- The Element K class has been created and will have a CRN number today.
- Irene Meares is offering a one credit hour course in Marketing Higher Education late on Wednesday afternoon. The class will start next week. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
- We ran two ads in both local newspapers in regard to spring classes.
- Chris Farren cooked a spaghetti dinner for the NH students who are here taking a multicultural class. Thanks to Trini Tolar for facilitating this visit and Maria Dominguez who is supporting her.
- The Governor has appointed two new regents: Jenny Montoya, the new student regent, and Noreen Scott, an economic development professional from Rio Rancho...
- The Information Station is up and running. Tina Rippa has been staffing it.
- There are 150 new applicants for spring.
- A new recruiting plan for spring is being developed.
- For Social Work, a Ft Defiance cohort is a possibility.
- Nursing and SOE are writing reports for their CHE special allocations.
- The NM Historical Records Advisory Board meets here this week. Julie Miller will host the group.
- At the end of last semester, IRC gave Julie Miller some feedback on noise issues. The second floor will be a silent study area. The first floor is for quiet conversation.
- The Friends of the Library received a donation of $800 from a person who attended the Salt of the Earth Conference.
- The Silver-Cobre proposal is a finalist for the Governor's Technical Vocational Education Center money.
- Donna Rees is writing a proposal on digital media production for film money from the Governor.
- The Deming Headlight did a great article on SOE student action projects.
- Donna Rees met with ProForce on a proposal to train security guards. Curtis Hays has reviewed the curriculum. Students will be eligible for WIA funding; we have a potential for 50 students a month.
- In Socorro, Donna Rees and Jerry Harmon have been meeting to deliver our Ed Leadership program to students there.
- There will be a Legislative Luncheon on Thursday with Ben Altimirano and Manny Herrera.
- The next Cabinet meeting will be on Feb 1 in Hunter Hall
