- A total of 19 people attended the QNM training meeting in SC last week.
- Graduating senior surveys have been sent out and are being returned to Kathie Gilbert.
- Kathie Gilbert gave Cabinet homework for the next meeting. Read the information in 6.1, highlight key thoughts and reflect on where WNMU is in regard to this criterion.
- Student government is working on Homecoming.
- Victor Carbajal is meeting with the Chief of Police on Wednesday in regard to speed zone in front of the CDC.
- August 28 is the tentative date for Painting the W.
- On August 1, there will be an ASNM Conference.
- Meet the Mustangs has been scheduled for Sept 14.
- Staff Senate thanked the President for lunch and the discussion of University issues.
- Duane Elms, as a member of the AQIP Marketing team, shared ideas about possible growth scenarios.
- The President called our attention to a recent news paper article about the overall loss of population in Grant County of around 6% over the last 5 years.
- Computers from the student technology fee funds have been ordered for residence halls and the library instruction room.
- Western's median strip needs tending.
- Duane Elms and Garth Gerstein are working on a Research and Public Services Project (RSPS) project.
- IT has reorganized a bit to create a stand alone Help Desk to support growth in online classes. It is also the place to call for any one with computer problems whether they be faculty, staff or students. April Matthews will continue to oversee the labs assisted by Lee Allensworth and Anthony Mason. She will also be in charge of special projects.
- We will need to discuss further whether we will have Element K training for next year.
- Plans are in place in the event students bring back viruses to campus. We still need to come up with a plan to ensure that faculty and staff do not bring a virus in a laptop, disk or a jump drive.
- The Extended University has done a mailing to athletic directors regarding online courses.
- The special student application is now online. Thanks to Mary Billings for leading the charge to make this happen.
- Donna Rees, Beth Walker, Faye Vowell and Chris Farren will make a trip to Gallup next year to discuss Social Work program with Navajo and Zuni leaders. It will be in collaboration with UNM Gallup.
- The purchase for a Gallup vehicle is being discussed with John Saari.
- Fourteen or 15 people need defensive driving in Gallup.
- We have submitted a proposal to the Governor’s film initiative. The appropriate staffer is supposed to make a decision this week.
- The Tecnologico de Monterrey-Queretaro (www.qro.itesm.mx) has invited Western New Mexico University to partner with them on a film degree and language exchange program.
- Chris Farren
met with Admissions yesterday and outlined their projects for next 6 weeks.
- Mercy Leyba is the new secretary in ASC.
- Enrollment Management will send follow up letters to all who have pre-registered to remind them they need to pay their deposit. If they do not pay they will be disenrolled.
- The Cafeteria is being remodeled.
- Chris Farren will create a short term PMT to examine how to change our enrollment procedures to make it easier to enroll.
- Chris Farren will also create a PMT for how we use document imaging, how training will be conducted and who will be trained.
- We have 9 students from Nuevo Casas Grande on campus for a month studying English. Bill Charland and Maria Trillo are working with the students.
- The President and the VPs met with the AQIP Marketing committee to discuss ways to increase enrollment for the fall.
- Richard Argulo, a former student, was on campus last week. He is doing well and is now playing for Minnesota.
- Mike Martinez will be heading the Alumni Garden Project.
- The Homecoming Alumni TGIF on Friday night at Graham Gym. Alums will have lunch in the newly remodeled cafeteria.
- The ABQ alumni chapter will meet on August 6. Christie Miller will ask Dan Tressler to attend.
- The Reference position for Library has been advertised. Lesa Jackson has taken a job with the Extended University so her position will be advertised
- Title V will pay for part time instructional librarian for the Student Success Seminar courses.
- Julie Miler talked with Larry Bach about a bequest from his mother’s estate to improve and update the Bach room.
- Garth Gerstein is working on the media services RSPS project.
- The Library is weeding the collection.
- Garth Gerstein is working on equipment installation and is checking in with the RUS sites. He will go to Gallup to look at the room for the second ITV classroom. We are looking for a place for a 4th ITV classroom in SC.
- Julie Miller is part of the Higher Learning Commission - NCA review corp and is doing her first assignment as a review team member.
- Julie Miller will do library instruction with a Deming class today and visit the new Deming library and the director to discuss collaboration.
- NM academic librarians will meet in early August to discuss a central storage facility.
- The AQIP SoTL team working on the work-study project has been meeting regularly.
- There was a nice article on Penny Schwinger in newspaper on Friday, July 15.
- Julie Morales passed around a campus map drafted by Laura Howell and suggested ways that the campus community might use it.
- Kathie Gilbert suggested we buy bulk tickets on Great Lakes for use by faculty and staff.
- The new Chamber director wants to have a Western display at the Chamber. She is working with Julie Morales.
- August 10 is the date of the next community relations meeting.
- The RSPS projects are due August 19 to HED. Business Affairs needs them a week early. The VPAA needs Academic Affairs projects at least two days before Business Affairs. HED does not paint a positive picture in regard to special projects.
- On July 28-30, AFSME has a permit from the City to hold an event on College Street between C Street and our parking lot.
- Randy Jones is the University contact point for union related questions.
- Randy Jones will do a budget orientation for Cabinet in October.
- The Vice Presidents have chartered a Senior Executive Action Team (SEAT) to initially meet twice a week to look at process management primarily.
- On 9 August, the Cabinet will have our annual retreat.
- On 11 and 12 August there will be a Board Retreat and Board meeting.
- President is going to AASCU later on this week.
- Our next meeting will be in two weeks on August 2.
