Present: Cissy McAndrew, Faye Vowell, Arley Howard, Peggy Lankford, Steve Reed, Tony Macias, Chris Casey, Christie Miller, Jerry Harmon, Gwen Cassel, Kathie Gilbert, Julia Morales, Donna Rees, Chris Farren, Carmen Maynes, John Counts.

 

· The Foundation has worked to provide lots of emergency book loans in the past two weeks.

· The Foundation Annual Campaign begins this week. Admissions will do a monthly donation for scholarships for transfer students. Faculty and staff are challenged to do the same.

· Nov 3 is the date for the concert for the Steinway piano.

· The 3rd annual Foundation golf tournament will be on Oct 31.

· The first Faculty Senate meeting this afternoon. Action taken will include prioritizing issues that will be addressed this year.

· Staff Senate will meet tomorrow at 10:00. Ballots will go out for elections this week. Seven openings will be filled with this election. The new Staff Senate president will take office on Oct 9.

· Instructional Research is working on the Fact Book and on Title V assessment.

· There will an upgrade to Banner V in October; this will take place over a weekend.

· There was a Web for Executives overview last week.

· There will be a Consultant on site to revamp systems that caused our recent computer problem.

· We are migrating data from POISE.

· We are working to complete the policies for Web registration; it is slated to go live in mid October.

· Check the home page for professional development to see available training opportunities.

· Steve Reed has some recommendations in regard to management of our long distance bills. For 40% of the pin numbers we have no record of who uses them.

· The telephone wiring in Muir Heights was replaced.

· Two network failures took place last week in Light Hall and the FACT. They are fixed now. One was a switch at the FACT and a fiber transceiver in Light Hall.

· In the middle of October, the city will close Swan Street for resurfacing. Tony Macias is talking with Mike Martinez about solutions for parking and some street rerouting.

· On Bill Richardson's agenda if he becomes governor, he has placed a new vocational building for SW New Mexico. Tony Macias continues to work with the CTEP vocational education group.

· Tony Macias will be meeting with program faculty to work toward everyone being certified and the programs being certified also.

· Both football and volleyball won their games this weekend.

· There will be training for the equipment in the Besse Forward auditoruim. A consultant will be on site for the first two times we use the facility.

· New digital copiers will begin appearing on campuses.

· The Banner payroll project is heating up for the next two weeks. Charlene Ashburn and Sherri Bays will be focusing on this task and may be hard to contact

· The Alumni Bulletin will be here on Friday; it is 24 pages. It will be mailed out next week

· Two new alumni chapters are being set up: Gallup on Sept 27 and Oct 4 in T or C.

· Jerry Harmon was up in Gallup on Thurs and Friday to do MBOs with Gallup faculty.

· Jonathan Dooley, visiting faculty member in Gallup, has a two hour children's program on radio in the Gallup area.

· Rich Yzenbaard is submitting a $2 million grant to DOE.

· A before picture was made to commemorate the renovation of Gallup. There will be an after picture also.

· Jerry will be going to the University of Texas to make a presentation at conference: Gail Gruber and DeAnne Miller will also present as will two people from Deming.

· SOE will meet today; the SOE assessment plan is on the agenda.

· Jerry Harmon met with some alums to discuss their presenting in classes during Homecoming.

· James Ball is at Cobre today; Jerry will meet with him today to discuss NCATE implementation.

· The AQIP annual report is due 21 September.

· There will be three quality workshops at TVI: one for faculty, one for mid-management the week of Sept 15, and a third one related to IR. Contact Kathie Gilbert if you are interested in attending.

· Social Work will have a mock accreditation team visit this Thursday. The President complimented Katherine Woodard on the self study.

· A Health Sciences career development module will be part of the Upward Bound grant that is being written.

· The West Wind will be out this week.

· Maria Rolfe will mount a voter registration effort so that our students can register to vote.

· Greg Sierra is doing an updated campus map. Julie Morales looked at a draft last week. Plans for distributing it are ongoing.

· Nadyne Gardner was honored last Saturday at a surprise dinner in T or C. The T or C Building was named the Gardner Education Center in her honor. Western presented her with a clock.

· Donna Rees is working with electricians and with Rick O'Ryan on connectivity for Gallup expansion.

· Sammy Johnson, a staff member in T or C, retires this month

· Mary Billings has visited all RUS sites last week and established contacts. She discussed Gen Ed requirements and took them catalogs. They are interested in developing some kind of advanced placement program. She will be working on the course rotation for our RUS partners.

· Off campus registration looks good.

· Enrollment figures tell us we are up 8% over last year when compared to census date. The increase is in full time students. Facilities and furniture are being stressed. But this is a good problem to have.

· Admissions will target transfer students and grad students this year.

· The ribbon cutting for Rhodes Sechler Glazer Hall is scheduled for September 20 at 10:00 am followed by an open house from 11-4 .

· Department meetings continue: Natural Sciences will be next.
