Cabinet Minutes 16 April 2002

 

 

 

In regard to maintenance issues, the following are being addressed: uniforms, safety issues, assessment.

 

 

The Mimbres Valley Learning C insert was published in the Deming paper. Last Wednesday, staff at the center

hosted a Meeet the Seniors day at the Center. There were lots of opportunities to talk about what students can

take in Deming. The Library is being expanded in Deming. Julie and Donna are working with them on collections

development and bibliographic instruction.

 

There will be an article about kids college in the paper. Christie is recruiting alumni to teach classes. The Alumni

Bulletin is due out at the end of April. The Las Cruces chapter will be meeting Friday night. We will distribute

license tags there. The A BQ Chapter is meeting again May 13.

 

The Alumni Association wishes to express thanks to the 3D design class who made models of alumni garden.

 

The faculty president for next year is Arley Howard and the vice president is Michele Behr.

 

At General Assembly over a 2/3 majority voted in favor of a change in general education to reduce the number of

required hours to 43 from 51.

 

The Professional Standards Board (PSB) approved School Psychology endorsement. Content area tests will

begin next year for the NMTA. It costs over $300 to take. PSB discussed cost and need to take all parts of the

test.

 

NM Group for Technology in Education met in a strategic planning session. Jerry Harmon was elected to the

steering committee. This group was organized to respond to the ESEA legislation. Creation of a virtual lab school

was discussed as was the need for a certification in distance education.

 

Two people have been nominated for the Teacher Hall of Fame.

 

At C&I next week, SOE will submit revisions in a number of programs.

 

Social Work is still working on it accreditation self study.

 

Deming has 46 Health Occupations students in the high school. Pat McIntire is talking with them about concurrent

enrollment.

 

Judith Lawrence conducted a CHE reporting overview last week. Work on 2002 Factbook has started.

 

There was a successful installation of the new firewall last night.

 

There will be a network design meeting in Las Cruces tomorrow.

 

Work on HR module is proceeding.

 

IT is getting ready for e-mail migration.

 

Equipment has been ordered for new GRC.

 

A system upgrade to Voyager has been finished.

 

There will be a Portal workshop starting April 30.

 

The acquisition of Student Space is on track.

 

A 6 month internal training calendar has been created. IT is working on course descriptions for those training

sessions this week.

 

Student elections will take place today and tomorrow. Two letters of protest have been filed.

 

 

The Great Race is the last weekend in April. Alumni will have a team; Christy Miller is driving. We are in the

process of getting two new cars built. There will be a high school race as well.

 

Class schedules for the summer session and fall are out. We will do a special edition to market summer school to

17,000 teachers.

 

Two meetings on the viewbook have taken place.

 

Financial aid has made 88 complete awards by April 1.

 

The Mustang editor advertisement is out. IT has proposed a web based student paper.

 

There is concern with alcohol use on campus. The state law is being researched. Most campuses are alcohol free

with the exception of alumni events.

 

Dr. Farren will be teaching a Freshman Seminar this next fall.

 

Steve Reed did a demo of the Campus Pipeline Portal and Web registration. We need to have a marketing plan

for this product. IT can do training for special interest groups such as academic secretaries, academic

departments, Academic Council. The portal wi ll focus on access and communication.
