Restructuring Conversation Team

It is expected that these groups will report progress on their activities to the General Assembly and the Staff Senate at the monthly meeting and will post minutes on a web page for all the University community to view.

This team is charged with guiding the conversation on assessing the organizational structure of the academic affairs area. It will ensure that all individuals in Academic Affairs will have an opportunity to advance suggestions and express opinions about possible ways of restructuring. Avenues of conversation include open meetings, visits to department meetings, academic council meetings, and threaded discussion on the web. The team will collate and assess suggestions and provide recommendations to the Provost/VPAA by May 1, 2001. Guidelines for the restructuring include the following: form should follow function; prime considerations should be efficiency, effectiveness, and quality (both in instruction and program but also in faculty interaction); the plan should save money or at least not cost more that the current organization; finally unnecessary levels of bureaucracy should not be introduced.

Use the "Restructuring Proposal" link below to see different visions of the way in which Academic Affairs could be restructured. Please take a few minutes to look at each suggestions and respond to it by discussing why it would or would not work or by asking questions that arise out of the discussion. Please post your response on the appropriate part of the Bulletin Board.
