SILVER CITY—On Monday, Nov. 1, Dr. Alejo Vidal-Quadras Roca, member and
Vice President of the European Parliament since 1999 and the former professor
of Atomic and Nuclear physics at the Universidad Autònoma de Barcelona
and Director of the Laboratory of Radiation Physics, will present a public lecture
on “Economic Development of the European Union and Its Implications for
the U.S.A.,” at 7 p.m. in the Besse-Forward Global Resource Auditorium on
the Western New Mexico University campus.
In a period when many relationships between European nations and the United States
are being reshaped, Dr. Vidal-Quadras Roca’s visit is most timely, said
Kathie Gilbert, WNMU special assistant for quality initiatives.
Dr. Vidal-Quadras Roca’s, who is also conversant on the new EU constitution,
is visiting New Mexico at the invitation of Dr. Louis Ollivier, Associate Professor
of Spanish at WNMU. He will visit Silver City as the guest of WNMU and the Silver
City Grant County Economic Development Corporation.
A prolific writer of scientific publications, he also has published four books
on social and political issues and is a regular columnist at the daily La Razòn
and at the weekly magazine Època.
