Opening Reception
Silver City--J. Cloyd Miller Library will hold an opening reception for “Elizabeth
I: Ruler and Legend,” a national traveling exhibition that focuses on the
brilliant monarch who ruled England from 1558 until 1603, on Friday, Oct. 15,
6:30-9:00 pm. The reception will feature music by the Desert Larks, a local group
who play English Renaissance music on recorders. Guests are invited to wear Renaissance
costumes.
“Elizabeth I: Ruler and Legend” was organized by the Newberry Library’s
Center for Renaissance Studies, Chicago, in collaboration with the American Library
Association Public Programs Office. The exhibit, made possible by major grants
from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), with additional support
from the Vance Family Fund and the University of Illinois at Chicago, will run
Oct. 16-Dec. 3 in the lobby of Miller Library. The opening reception and exhibition

Elizabeth I Film
The WNMU-Silver City International Film Society will show “Elizabeth,”
the 1998 film starring Cate Blanchett, at the Besse-Forward Global Resource Center
on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 7:00 pm and Sunday, Oct. 17, at 1:30 pm. Admission is
$5.00. WNMU students receive free admission with current student ID.
The showings are part of a series of events corresponding to “Elizabeth
I: Ruler and Legend,” a national traveling exhibition that focuses on the
brilliant monarch who ruled England from 1558 until 1603. The exhibition opens
at the J. Cloyd Miller Library on the campus of Western New Mexico University
on Oct. 16, 2004, for six weeks.
