At the J. Cloyd Miller Library at Western New
Mexico University…
A workshop on inkle
weaving will be held at the J. Cloyd Miller Library on Saturday, Nov. 13, from
1:00-4:00 pm. The workshop will be
conducted by Jacque Cusick. In
this 3-hour workshop attendees will
thread an inkle loom and weave a plain-weave design, producing a single band
about 25 inches long that can be
used as a belt, headband, or decorative trim.
Inkle weaving is often associated with the English Renaissance, when this simple loom was used to produce the decorative bands and tapes that embellished highly stylized clothing. Simpler bands served as garters and braces.
The number of
workshop participants is limited to 10 and there is a materials fee of
$5.00. Call Miller Library at 538-6350 to register.
This workshop is being held in conjunction with “Elizabeth I: Ruler and Legend,” a traveling exhibition hosted by J. Cloyd Miller Library. It is sponsored by the American Library Association Public Programs Office and made possible by major grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), with additional support from the Vance Family. The exhibition, which runs Oct. 16-Dec. 3 in the lobby of Miller Library, is free and open to the public.
