SILVER CITY—The Western New Mexico University School of Education is requesting nominations to the WNMU Education Hall of Fame. The application is available on-line at www.wnmu.edu/academic/schedu/soe/homepage.htm which is the Hall of Fame Page within the School of Education under Academic Departments or may be picked up at the School of Education Office at the Martinez/Fall Building. The deadline for nominations is February 4, 2005.
WNMU has a long tradition of
preparing quality educators in New Mexico. Due to this strong teaching
tradition, the Education Hall of Fame was initiated in 1985 by Tom Holland in
recognition of his sister, Cora Miller Holland, who graduated from the
New Mexico Normal School in 1899.
The purpose of the Education
Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor exemplary classroom teachers and to
serve as a depository of record for the accomplishments of those selected.
To qualify for the Hall of
Fame, a candidate must be a graduate of WNMU or its predecessor institutions,
must have a dominant interest in classroom teaching, and must have dedicated a
major portion of their professional career to classroom teaching at the
primary, secondary, or higher education levels.
