SILVER CITY—The Western New Mexico University Con Confianza Student Success Seminar classes will present a series of skits and presentations beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Fine Arts Center Theatre.
The skits and presentations will highlight topics students selected when surveyed on what was most important in their lives. Topics include parking on campus, the war in Iraq, and personal identity or self-awareness.
In addition, students from Professor Patricia Cano’s Chicano Literature class will perform skits and presentations from a Chicano literature standpoint.
“This event is part of the American Democracy Project. We want to use this as a springboard for a much larger event next semester and ask area schools to participate,” said Avelino Maestas, ADP committee member.
“When the committee was first making plans for activities under the American Democracy Project, we decided to add other activities in addition to politics. The committee chose to use art as a component of civic engagement, he added.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Ann Marie Elder at the FACT at 538-6468.
