Cast Iron Cookin With Dean Foster
SILVER CITY—The Western New Mexico University Extended University is offering a "Cast Iron Cookin" with Dean Foster. Dean Foster has been cooking with Dutch Ovens since before he learned to cook with an indoor oven. The tradition of Dutch Oven cooking was passed on to Dean by his father who learned from his father. Dean blends the traditional technique of cooking with oak coals with that of using charcoal briquets. Dean will be teaching the students how to cure and use their dutch ovens. The students will also be cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner.
This class will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at Walking X Canyon. The cost will be $50 per person. The required equipment to take is: a 25# bag of charcoal, shovel, leather gloves, 5 gallons of water, sharp kitchen knife, cutting board, kitchen kit (plate, fork, spoon, & cup), and a sense of humor! The instructor will be providing all the food and a $25 materials fee will need to be paid to the instructor at the class meeting. Students may take their own vehicles or go in the university van. Students need to meet in the back parking lot of Bowden Hall by 7:30 a.m. The class will return about 6 p.m. Only 9 students will be able to register for this course.
