SILVER CITY- Abe Villareal, Western New Mexico University Mustang editor, has been selected by United States Senator Pete Domenici of New Mexico for an internship position in Washington, D.C. Villareal’s internship will take place from July 5th through August 12th.
Villareal is originally from Douglas, Ariz. and has been attending WNMU for the past five semesters. He has been the Mustang editor since January 2005.
As a business major, Villareal believes that this internship can help him gain more experience by working with managers in a different environment. He stated, “I’ll be able to know what it is like for a worker to be relocated, meet new people, and experience different things under different working surroundings.”
Villareal was selected from among 70 applicants for the internship program. “I respect Senator Domenici a lot, I’ve always wanted to visit our nation’s capitol, and I love politics so I thought it was an appropriate fit for me,” said Villareal.
Villareal will join 12 other interns selected to work for the Senator this summer.
With re-election in 2002, Sen. Domenici became the first New Mexican elected to serve six full six-year terms in the Senate. Domenici has served longer in the U.S. Senate than any other New Mexican in history.
