            SILVER CITY- Dan Tressler has been named the Admissions Director at Western New Mexico University.  Originally from Indiana, Tressler has lived in Silver City for more than 30 years. He has more than 14 years experience working with WNMU. 

Tressler graduated from Western, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in both business management and psychology with a minor in economics in 1970.  In 1973, he earned a masters degree in business management while also completing 18 hours of graduate level guidance and counseling.

Following his undergraduate education, Tressler worked in private industry.  He returned to pursue a master’s degree at Western where he worked for three years under a federally-funded project as a counselor for at-risk students.  He then became involved with administrative duties.  Tressler was a college administrator at WNMU for 14 years serving as director of housing and food service, director of admission and alumni and director of alumni, development and government relations.   

He returned to the private sector for 14 years.  He was a resident manager at Chino Mines Company for a Mitsubishi subsidiary, a partner with Phelps Dodge.  However, the company sold its interest in the mine to Phelps Dodge, and Tressler

returned to WNMU in 2003 as the interim Foundation executive director. 

            With so much experience, Tressler has great plans for the Admissions office. 

“I want to work closely with the other offices and departments and consolidate the efforts of the admissions office toward a common goal.”

 Tressler stressed that he would like to focus on not only increasing enrollment but doing it through systemic growth and increased retention. He hopes to accomplish this through a cooperative effort with the faculty and staff as well as through the utilization of alumni. 

Tressler also stated that he would like to assist in the marketing of the university.  Finally, Tressler affirmed that he is looking forward to working with the students, as they are at the heart of the university.

            Tressler and his wife, Lisa, have a total of seven children.
