IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 10-26-05 CONTACT: PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE
DEMING--The Deming La Familia Resource Library is asking for your help. The office space for the library located in Morgan Hall on Pine Street was consumed in a fire on Oct. 23. The records, supplies, and toys at the facility were lost in the fire.
“This is a huge loss for the community because we lend many of the child care providers in the area furniture and age appropriate toys for children and resource materials for parents. The items are loaned out free of charge,” said Alice Jones, Western New Mexico University Early Childhood Community Planner.
Child care providers who have La Familia Resource Library items on loan are asked to contact George Pettigrew, the La Familia Deming Librarian at 546-4335 to assist the office in determining what items still exist and which will need to be replaced. All of the program’s records were destroyed in the fire.
“We would like to have the library resume service as soon as possible. If there is anyone in the community that is aware of a suitable space for the library, please contact George Pettigrew,” said Jones.
Under Pettigrew’s direction, the Resource Library has
been serving approximately 80-100 parents and providers each month. The program
has been operating in Deming for four years.
