Silver City- Western New Mexico University’s Natural Science Department is proud to announce the dedication of Room 126 as Harlan Hall’s Emeritus Faculty office on Friday, Dec. 2 at noon.

The project of renovating the office began in spring of 2005 when department faculty members decided they would like to have a space dedicated for Natural Science emeritus professors. Several departments were involved in allowing the project to become a reality.

The office was originally a dark room and was renovated under the direction of Henry Sanchez, head of maintenance, and T.J. Robinson, assistant director of maintenance and electrician, with the help of many others. The renovation included the addition of new cabinetry, light fixtures, additional electrical sockets, carpet installation and painting. Academic affairs was also involved providing high-speed ethernet ports.

The office is an important addition to Harlan Hall because many emeritus faculty are involved in scholarly research or activities. The new office provides a personal space for professors to carry out their work without interruption. Ken Ladner, Department Chair of Natural Sciences, believes that the emeritus faculty have given the Natural Sciences Department a great reputation throughout the scientific community at large and believe the new office will serve its tenants well.

Natural Science emeritus faculty include: John Cunningham of Silver City, a retired geologist; Bruce Hayward of Silver City, a biologist; Terry Heiner of Salt Lake City, Utah, a biologist; Dale Zimmerman of Silver City, a biologist; John Morton of Silver City, a chemist; and James Fischer of Silver City, a chemist.
