Mexican Migration, Free Trade,
and Border Security to Be Focus of Meeting
Dr. Magdaleno Manzanarez will share his insights on “Mexican Migration, Free Trade, and Border Security” on Sunday, January 22, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Global Resource Center on the Western New Mexico State University campus. Dr. Manzanarez is an Associate Professor of Political Science at WNMU and co-author of the book NAFTA and Neocolonialism. Anyone interested in learning more about US-Mexico border issues is encouraged to attend this free meeting, which is sponsored by the local No More Deaths group and the WNMU Office of Multicultural Affairs.
At the meeting, blankets for residents of the Columbus, New Mexico, and Palomas, Mexico areas will be collected as part of the annual Blanket the Border campaign. Both new and gently used blankets are welcome, as are checks made out to “Blanket the Border.” Blankets may also be dropped off at First Presbyterian Church in Silver City, 1915 N Swan, before January 25. Church hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m.
