SILVER CITY--The first annual Western New Mexico University Academic and Research Conference will be held on Tuesday, April 25. WNMU and high school students will participate.
An opening ceremony will be held at Graham Gym from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
Poster presentations will be on display at Graham Gym from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Poster themes include bilingual education, Latino civil rights, university pride, need for masters level social workers, impact of mandatory sentencing for drug offenders, sociology of reproductive rights, and sexual harassment laws for educational institutions.
Oral paper presentations will be held in the Thomas B. McDonald Student Memorial Building Student Senate Chambers from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Topics include the impact of the changes in agriculture, juvenile justice, US Patriot Act of 2001, fired education, new circular geometry, and digital animation.
Exhibits will be on display at Graham Gym from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Themes include a marketing project for a local business, learning style inventory, circular geometry, measuring codependent personality traits, and MSI creation.
School of Education Action Presentations and Teaching Portfolios will be offered at the Thomas B. McDonald Student Memorial Building from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Some 23 WNMU practice teachers are scheduled to participate.
A closing ceremony will be held at Graham Gym beginning at 4 p.m.
The public is encouraged to view the great works being done by students at Western and in the local area.
