SILVER CITY—Individuals interested in flying the friendly skies will get their opportunity to become a pilot through two new courses being offered at Western New Mexico University this summer.
Through the “Sport Pilot Ground School” class students will get the training and education to complete the FAA written examination and receive FAA approved course material presented by FAA certified ground school instructors. The class will meet weekdays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is three-credit hours.
Introduction to Aviation is a two-credit hour course designed to acquaint the student with a general understanding of the most prevalent fields of aviation. (Commercial, Private, Airline, Government (non-military as in the FAA), Airport Operations, Mechanical/Technical, and Military as examples). Career opportunities within each will be examined. The course will include field trips and is designed as a seminar. Guest presenters will be used frequently to provide first-hand knowledge. Classes will be held each weekday June 1 through June 30, from 5 p.m. til 6:30 p.m.
Enrollment in both classes for the semester is required. A lab fee of $183.85 for the ground school class will be assessed and a lab fee of $10 will be assessed for the aviation class. The lab fee covers all course materials and test fees.
