SILVER CITY--Sunday evenings for the month of June will be filled with the sweet sound of music as the Western New Mexico University Summer Music Concert Series gets underway in June. All of the concerts are free to the public.

On June 4, feature entertainer Jim Carey, a one-man band, is set to perform.  The WNMU Flute Choir will entertain the audience on June 11.  On June 18, a performance by the WNMU Faculty Jazz Project will be held. Concluding the Sunday concerts for the month will be "Rio Pan", a steel drum band, performing on June 25.

All performances start at 6 p.m. at the WNMU Expressive Arts Department Courtyard Amphitheater just behind the Fine Arts Center Theatre.  Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chair or seat cushion.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase.  Donations are accepted and will benefit the WNMU music program through funding scholarships, the purchase of instruments and the sponsoring of guest artists.

For more information or a schedule of the performing groups, please call Jim Carey at 538-6226.  A concert series beginning in late August through the month of October is also under development.  Carey is interested in speaking with individuals or businesses that would be interested in sponsoring a concert or the series.
