The Radioactive and Hazardous Materials Committee, a New Mexico legislative committee, met on the campus of Western New Mexico University on Tuesday, July 11.  Agenda items included a copper mining update from Phelps Dodge, mining issues in New Mexico and upcoming legislative issues, disposal of hazardous waste at the Camino Real Landfill update, environmental justice overview, and sewage and treatment disposal systems and implementation of revised rules for septic tanks (local concerns).  Local Rep. Manuel Herrera is a member of the committee.  Also serving on the committee is Sen. Vernon D. Asbill of Carlsbad, a WNMU alumnus.  Pictured is the committee making introductions before the scheduled testimonies.
