SILVER CITY—Selected Sunday evenings will be filled with the sweet sound of music during the months of August though October as part of the Western New Mexico University Fall Music Concert Series.  All of the concerts are free to the public.

The concert series kicks off on Aug. 27 featuring the WNMU Faculty Jazz Project.

 “Rio Pan,” a steel drum band, will entertain the audience on Sept. 10.  On Sept. 17, a performance by the WNMU Flute Choir will be held. Concluding the Sunday concerts for the month of September will be the WNMU Percussion Ensemble performing on Sept. 24.

            Free concerts scheduled in October include the WNMU String Ensemble on Oct. 1, “Rio Pan,” performing on Oct. 8, the WNMU Jazz Ensemble on Oct. 15 and concluding with the WNMU Faculty Recital on Oct. 22.

All concerts are held at the WNMU Expressive Arts Department Courtyard Amphitheater just behind the Fine Arts Center Theatre.  The performances are free and begin at 7 p.m. except for the Oct. 22 Faculty Recital, which begins at 2 p.m. in the Parotti Recital Hall.  In the event of poor weather, the concerts will be held in the Parotti Recital Hall.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Sponsorships are available by contacting the director of bands. Donations are appreciated and will benefit the WNMU Music Department through funding scholarships, the purchase of instruments and sponsoring guest artists.
