SILVER CITY—Western New Mexico University’s Extended University will be offering a Scuba Diving class beginning Sept. 11 through Oct. 9. Students will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays in the Brancheau P.E. Complex Room 245 from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. for pool time.
The students will be taking a trip to Balmorhea State Park in Texas for their open water certification on Oct. 14. The cost for the course will be $279 per person. The trip to the state park is at the expense of the student. At the first class meeting, crew packs containing academic materials will be issued to each student and the trip to the state park will be discussed.
Dive Quest Scuba will have samples of snorkel equipment. Students will need snorkel gear and will receive a 15 percent discount for snorkel equipment purchased from Dive Quest Scuba. Cost of the snorkel set is between $180 to $280. Dive Quest provides use of tanks, regulator system with computer, weight integrated buoyancy compensator and wetsuit throughout entire course. The purchase of a $16 mouthpiece/accessory kit is also required.
